League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Wiki

Dr. Moreau is a vivisectionist and animal experimenter who assists the British government in creating human-animal hybrids. The real reason for his employment to the British, however, was due to his further skills in creating biological weaponized bacterial hybrids, the "H-140" series, while his animal hybrids were "merely eccentric hobbies" that are tolerated by the government unless they have become unruly and forced to be euthanise.

History[]

Desperate Times[]

Dr. Moreau sends a few of his hybrids to fetch the secret agents snooping around his compound. He greets them and they reveal themselves to be Allan Quatermain and Mina Murray. Moreau explains to them that the British government relocated him to his current location after his old one founds some difficulties. Quatermain lifts up a sheet in Moreau's lab and sees a dog-man hybrid that was being operated on. It had passed away due to the anaesthetics.

Mina informs Dr. Moreau that they are here to see him about one of his hybrids, H-142. Moreau is shocked to learn this and asks if theyr'e absolutely sure. While it's not said explicitly what H-142 is, Moreau knows if the government needs it then England must be in grave danger. Quatermain tells him about the Martians that have invaded London so Moreau invites the pair to dinner to discuss matters further.

Farewells[]

Allan Quatermain, Mina Murray, and Dr. Moreau stand at the train station with H-9 and H-14. The hybrids have a wooden crate containing H-142. Quatermain refers to the hybrids as ghastly while Moreau refutes this. Mina comments on how amazing it is that the hybrids are so well behaved. She is then informed by the Doctor that H-9 has strong sexual desires that leads to aggression. His solution to this is letting a local woman have sex with the hybrid to sedate his urges.

Luckily, for Quatermain and Mina the train arrives. H-9 and H-14 make themselves scare while H-142 is carefully loaded onto the vehicle. Mina says goodbye to Dr. Moreau and hopes he won't be too lonely without any humans to interact with. He informs her that his hybrids will keep him company. Moreau also mentions having a painter nephew named Gustave that visits to paint the hybrids. Mina and Quatermain board the train and Dr. Moreau bids them farewell. The Doctor and his hybrids then disappear into the woods.

Dr. Moreau is from The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G. Wells. In the story Dr. Moreau retreated to Noble's Isle in disgrace; there was no stated link between Moreau and British Military Intelligence. Moreau's given name "Alphonse" is Alan Moore's creative convention as Moreau's first name in the novel is never given.
