Katy Carr was a tall untidy tomboy, getting into scrapes but wishing to be beautiful and beloved. When a terrible accident made her an invalid, her illness and recovery gradually teach her to be as good and kind as she has always wanted and learned to accept domestic discipline.
From her brief cameo, Katy is shown to be a sadistic woman who is extremely firm about enforcing gender roles, having brutally caning Olive across her bare backside, while telling her that they would beat the independence out of her, ignoring her pleas for Mercy. This seems to be common practice in the academy.
- The scene where she spanks Olive Chancelor seems to be metaphorical with the 2 stories themselves. Katy's story is commonly seen as an attempt to enforce gender roles in society, and Olive in her story was a suffragette; so Katy spanking Olive into a submissive seems to be a particularly humiliating metaphor for activists efforts being defeated by societal norms at the time.
