Standard Island is a huge artificial island-ship constructed in the 1890s with the backing of American financiers. It was called "The Pearl of the Pacific" and the world's ninth wonder before it was tragically destroyed by storms in 1895. The remains of Standard Island lies southeast of New Zealand.
